And the first of the parts for this year start rolling in.....

Kinja'd!!! Kinja'd!!!

Sorry for the potato-cam pics, but didn't get home till late last night from picking up that roll bar. Should also have progress pics up tonight or tomorrow. A few more bits will be here on Sat, then it'll be time to wait on the big shipment of parts from Flyin Miata. Why is waiting always the hardest part?

Yummy! Get the Star specs or the normal ZIIs?

The regular ones for now, which should still be plenty grippy for the setup I'll be running, plus they were a bit cheaper.

Yep, they should be plenty. The differences are pretty subtly between the two. The Star Specs to me feel a little softer and wear faster while the regular ones are a little firmer, but give way a little more progressively. They're both excellent.

Yeah, that's more or less what I was reading. The Star specs had marginally higher grip in the dry, but also wore faster and would also break away a bit more suddenly at the limit. These will only see some spirited drives out in the hill country, and a few autocrosses, and my car will not be competitive in the class it would be in (the driver likely doesn't help there either), so cheaper with a bit less grip but more progressive breakaway sounded good to me.

Last year got this kit from FM http://flyinmiata.com/index.php?dept… along with the full poly bushing kit, Hawk HP pads, Centric cryo treated blank rotors front and rear, and the FM SS braided brake lines. This year....well the list is rather long so I'll just link you to my previous post http://oppositelock.jalopnik.com/bonus-cleared-… All in all this should make for a damn fun little Miata.

I got lucky with my bonus the last couple years, I get the feeling the next one will likely not be quite so impressive.

Just a bit. Miata for handling and DSM for power/drag

Makes sense, the Miata is my only toy, and the only toy I have room for. The deal was, wife doesn't complain about my car stuff so long as I satisfy 3 criteria:

1) she retains her spot in the garage. I can do whatever in my half, and it's not a big deal if hers has to live outside for a night or 2, but not much longer than that.

2) money spent on the car doesn't cut into the other stuff we do. Not real hard to do this, I only use bonus money for parts on the toy, anything else we do comes out of our regular paychecks.

3) parts get stored somewhere out of the way. Once again, easy, we have a big ass room upstairs that is basically just used for storage anyway so parts get stowed there till they're ready to go on the car.

Now, all of this does mean that I can only really have one toy car, but that's probably better for my spending habits anyway.

seems like a pretty smart way to do it. My miata is my summer DD but its turning into more of a toy. Seems to happen with all my vehicles
